Western NY to NYC

A case submitted by

My climate story is not too extensive. I grew up in Western New York, about 1 hour outside of Buffalo. I grew up in the suburbs of a smaller city, which to me was a very typical American upbringing. There was pretty much everything you could think of right around the corner. This includes green spaces, parks, office buildings, restaurants, bars, gyms, schools, etc. With that being the case, I took for granted having so much so close by. I moved to New York City about 6 months ago and there has been a bit of a culture shock. While there are way more bars, restaurants, and work opportunities, I find it rather difficult to connect with nature in the city. Even the parks feel urbanized and crowded. This has been one of the most interesting realizations since moving here, as I never realized the attachment to remote green spaces I have.
